Golfsmith sale

I drive past a Golfsmith on my way to work and hadn't seen any signs for "store closing" clearance but I thought to look this morning and they had them up. Went online and it says 30-50% off "original prices" and I believe 20% off equipment.

Still not a bargain with their prices, but I may swing by to see if I can grab a spare pair of shoes to keep on the shelf for future use. Or some gloves, can always use a couple of extra ones.

Speaking of sales...I have to

Speaking of sales...I have to say I have not been very impressed with any golf deals I've seen through Black Friday to now.  Maybe it's because I don't need much but nothing stood out to me as a great deal.  I'm kind in the market for some good shoes for the winter/spring but haven't seen much.   I did buy some Callaway golf balls off Amazon on Cyber Monday for $11 for a dozen.  Never used that model before but i figured over the winter, they'd be cheaper to lose than ProV1s.

DON
Sams/s Club has Callaway

Sams/s Club has Callaway balls in their stores if you want a cheaper ball during the cold months ahead. Not sure which ball they carry but at around 12 a dozen they are at a reasonable price at least.

sales

have gotten some non-golf stuff for good prices. Target had 15% off everything on Cyber Monday (free shipping at $25). Got a new winter coat from Macy's which had a retail of $225 for around $60. Hubby has a credit with one of the online sellers he likes (3Balls or GlobalGolf) and they have 15% off used clubs, he's buying a new (used) Callaway 3W which will likely be like new for $80 with free shipping. I probably won't have time to get to Golfsmith until next week, not sure anything will be left by then, I'm only looking for gloves.

I haven't seen any kind of

I haven't seen any kind of deals either in the pre-Christmas period to date in terms of golf gear.  Perhaps the retailers/manufacturers have finally discovered that they can't keep putting their wares out the door at  loss.

The other thing I'm noticing is that retail pricing is going up and up and up!  Titleist 917 driver is $649.99 in Canada and the companion fairway woods are $429.99!  Those are new price points having pushed through the $599.99 barrier for drivers that was set last year with the Cobra King LTD.  Callaway's newest Big Bertha iron offering is $1399.99.  Pretty much the steepest pricing we've seen up here in real terms (factoring in inflation) in greater than 10 years when the Ping G-5 and Taylormade R 7 drivers pushed through $500.

Golf is becoming very expensive again unless you are willing to go the used club route.  Good if you have surplus equipment to sell which I do.

Yeah, same here Sco..I tend

Yeah, same here Sco..I tend to sell my old stuff and get some credit towards otehr things.  I think these last irons I bought new will last me a while.  I might play with driver heads but I'll try to keep the same shaft.  That's part of my problem right now...I really like my gear.  So other than golf balls, nothing really excites me enough to buy something else.  I was close to buying some new - used - hybrids off GlobalGolf.com last night..might still.. just to try them.  My hybrids are all like 2008 models. but they tend to be OK.  Not sure if a 2013 model will help me any.  But I refuse to pay $200 for a hybrid now...prices have got insane.

update

Michael got his hybrid (Callaway XR) from 3Balls and it looked like it had maybe been a demo club. No wear, maybe some faint scuffs, brand new grip. Nice club. I will hit it if it ever warms up enough to go to the range, might be a good option for me if I decide to replace my hybrids which I hit well, but are getting pretty beat up at this point (particularly the 4, which I had bought in fair condition to start with).

Golfsmith's last email says

Golfsmith's last email says ther are now in the last week of the close-out sale and everything is 50-75 % off retail. so now might be the time to go look at what they have. Might not have much left that you would want, but at least the prices at getting down to a reasonable level.
