Graffaloy Blue Shaft

PIcked up a little Holilday Christmas for myself...my recent tests with my siwng analyzer left we wanting to try a non-stock shaft.  I found I had some coupon on Ebay I needed to use very soon and found a Graffaloy shaft with the Ping G30 tip already installed.  Net cost with the coupon wasn't too much more than buying to tip itself so figured I'd give the Prolaunch shaft a try.  The weight is closer to that of the UST Proforce that I like in the Callaway.   So we'll see how it does once installed.

Do you know if it's an after

Do you know if it's an after market Graffalloy shaft or if it's has Ping marked on it somewhere. Most of the top OEM's sell drivers and woods with shafts made my well known shaft companys like Aldila or Grafalloy, but they are shafts made to the oem specs, NOT the same shaft as what you would get if you purchased one from the shaft company. Usually it's a cheaper version of the after market shaft, sometimes with the same name on it, but with the OEM club maker name on it as well.   Either way, I hope you like the new shaft when it gets in and you have a chance to try it in your driver head.

This isn't a Ping shaft, it's

This isn't a Ping shaft, it's just a Grafalloy ProLaunch Blue  shaft with Ping Tip.   The stock Ping shaft is something completely different.   The Grafalloy is supposed to be a higher launching shaft, so we'll see.  I've read good and bad things from reviewers on it so I'll just have to wait and see.

Glad to hear that Scott. I

Glad to hear that Scott. I had a R flex Prolaunch Blue shaft in a driver about 14 years ago. It was a nice shaft but too soft for my swing, so I changed it out for a S flex shaft. THe shaft was in an 11.5* driver and I hit it okay but it just felt too whippy for me and a S flex shaft just felt so much better. Not what I think about it, it was an old Ping G2 driver that I picked up for around $100 at the time. Still have the driver in fact.

Hey Don,  got the shaft this

Hey Don,  got the shaft this week.  It is the OEM Prolaunch Blue.  Not a Ping version.   We have 4 inches of snow so no telling when I'll get to hit it..

Glad to see it's doesn't have

Glad to see it's doesn't have Ping printed on the shaft. The R flex ProLaunch Blue I had was a nice shaft, just too soft for my swing. One thing I noticed with the shaft was that it Mattered how the shaft was aligned in the driver head. IF i put the shaft in the head with the spine at 12 o"clock, it played way too soft. If I rotated the shaft 90 degrees so the spine was aligned down the target line, it played much firmer ans was only a little bit too soft, rather than way too soft for me. That said I woul highly recommend that you have the shaft Spine and FLO aligned when you have it installed in your driver.

Thanks Don.  I'll look at it

Thanks Don.  I'll look at it and pay attention to that.   I'm not sure how I want to set it up yet..loft wise.  Once I see how I like it, I might send ot your way and pay you to do that for me.

I'd be happy to help you with

I'd be happy to help you with the Spine and FLO alignment of the shaft. It made a really big difference with the ProLaunch Blue shaft is had in my driver.

Hit the driver yesterday ...

Hit the driver yesterday ...

Went out and walked 9 holes...was cold, 45 degrees and somewhat windy but had the afternoon free so gave it a shot.  Hit one really good drive and the others were ehhh. I don't think it's the shaft, I think it was me.  Long layoff plus layered up for the weather.  Hard to judge distance..had a couple drives that were longer than I would have expected because of the cold, but with fairways dry and dormant, maybe i just go more rollout than normal. irons where a club shorter distance wise given the cold, so I expected the drives to be.    The one really good one I hit had a nice tragectory and ball flight.  better than expected distance.   So we'll keep working with it...maybe I can play next week

If you can, try to gget in a

If you can, try to gget in a range time and hit some balls with the driver with that shaft to get used to it before you play a round. That should give you the best chance to see how the shaft will work for you after you are used to playing with it. Have fun and let me know how it goes.

The weather is nice here

The weather is nice here today as well. High of 62 today, and then the cold moves in from the northwest over night. Tomorrow it will be cold with a high of only 22 or so. Needless to say I'm not going to be out side much after today. Cold all next week with a little snow and very cold all week Supposed to get down to the negitive temps over night a few days. Good luck with getting in a little range time with your new shaft.

Thanks Don.  It's not getting

Thanks Don.  It's not getting out of the high 20s today .. Most of the week's that way now.  Maybe next week I'll get some more swings in.  Thus far I can't fault any of my bad swings on the shaft.  It's a light weight shaft so it feels very similar to the other one I had in.  When we get out of winter i want to do some better comparisons to the old one, maybe get over to the launch monitor and hit some with both shafts and see how each does.
