Golf Club Reviews and Discussions
first day of spring, cruel joke. we are getting another snowstorm and by the time it ends will have close to a foot of heavy wet snow...again. I went to the golf course to renew my membership and it was depressing to think about it. The fairways were clear, just some residual snow in the parking lot. My earlier prediction of no golf til April is looking pretty accurate.
It's not how...it's how many
You got the snow we had a few days ago Aimee. I got about 5 inches of wet heavy snow and you got what was left in the clouds.
Putting is easy if you have the Right Putter.
Actually saw some sun today..a little. and the snow we got Saturday night is gone. Might hit 70 this week, probably with rain, but who cares..it'll be above 50 degrees,..about time.
Golf is a game that can only be played...
We had some snow falling last night when we went to bed. Forecast for maybe 1-2 inches of snow, but when I woke up and looked outside, I found that we had about 6 inches of wet heavy snow on the car and lawn. Had to clear off the snow from the car so the wife could driver to work. but at least it came off the car easily as it was loose on the car, NOT frozen on like it can be. Temperture got down to around 28 overnight which isn't too bad I quess. Good nows is that my new Greenhouse only got down to 41 degrees overnight , so all my seeds that I planted 2 weeks ago were safe from the cold outside. Now that the sun is up and the outside temp is up to 40 degrees, the air temp in the greenhouse is up to 79 degrees, which is pretty impressive. I can't wait for all of my tomatie seeds and pepper seeds to poke up so I know how many plants i might end up with to plant in the garden this year. Golf may not be in the forecast for awhile yet but at least I can look forward to plantng a garden and picking some nice sweet tomatoes before too long.
not to jinx things, but looking good for golf this Sunday, mid-50's
Had 70's today..so got out for 9 holes in the golf league. Well things didn't start according to plan. Was going with the new swing but only time for about 8-10 balls at the range. While those weren't too bad the first few holes were. 2 shanks, a few topped shots and poor putting. It was all bad. After the first I two holes, things settled down a little but putting was bad. Had birdie putts at 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9. Didn't make any of them but.
I'll try to get to the range this weekend and work on it some more. Driver was pretty good most of the round but putting, I just had no feel.
No April Fool tricks, we did get to play today (although it is supposed to snow tomorrow, so thats depressing). It was pretty overcast and some wind, so it didn’t feel very spring-like. We teed off a little after 12 noon. Grass still dormant. Lots of twigs and small branches on the ground near the treeline, remnants from those bad storms we had in March. Saw a couple of young deer and heard the turkeys in the woods. Didn’t do badly for first time out, short game not there, as to be expected. Had 33 puts, 1 GIR, 3 pars for 91. Best par was #18, I sank a long downhill putt to make the par. Did not lose any golf balls. Hit the irons straight, distance not there, but as an example I hit 6i on the first hole, which was encouraging from my issues I was working thru last year. Weather looks lousy for the next 2 weeks so who knows when I will swing next.
Glad you got out Aimee..I know our course was packed this weekend so I didn't try to play. I did ride 9 holes Friday. Drove the ball OK but it was WINDY so had to club up for most of the shots. shortgame and irons were not as good. Didn't lose a ball but didn't make any birdies either. Was happy with several drives which did what I wanted them too. But gotta work on the other stuff.
Well, back from Myrtle Beach ... had 3 days of golf...and really two of those rounds could have been pretty good. Shot 82 and 83 the first 2 days...with a quadruple bogey each day. Drove the ball really well the first 2 days..but short game got me. I knew it would be a problem and it was. Thinned and chunked chips and 6o yard wedge shots. That part of the game just isn't there yet, with all the harsh winter we've had. Just had no time to work on it.
Hit some great iron shots, but not enough. Will keep working on the new swing and wrist position at the top. When I get it right, it's a ncie shot. Putted OK but man where those greens different. First day was sort of slow and you could be aggressive. Second day like lightening!. Third day, in between.
Had a great time but have really gotta start working at the range. Glad it'll start to warm up now.
I'll check back in May. We still have winter!
Understand Sco. After being at the beach in the warm temps last week, I woke up to about 31 degrees this morning. SHould warm up later this week and I'll get to play again but the next couple weeks of April are supposed to be under our normal high temps. Old Man Winter just keeps wanting to hang on a little longer...
Weather has turned better for us in the Carolina's. 79 tomorrow and I'm playing 18. Played 9 holes Wednesday and shot 4 over. Had some good shots but then some bad ones. Getting better though with the drives. Still not great on the irons or chipping.
On another note, tonight our pool team won a trip to vegas to compete in the nationals in July! This will be my first time winning a trip out there. I realize from everyone I've talked to that those teams are stacked and so I'm not setting high expectations but I'm psyched! A big part of that (because I go to Vegas alot) is that I'm able to do this with my 78 year old Dad. He plays on the team as well. So that will be an awesome trip.
I hope others are starting to get out of the snow and can start golfing soon
Yesterday it was in the mid 70's but then it turned cold and I woke up to aboutt 2-1/2 inches of wet snow this morning, with a high forecast of 42* at best. Should be back to warm weather by Monday, but this weekend will be cold and Very WINDY. Wind gusts in the range of 90 MPH this weekend for a good part of eastern Colorado, so NO golf for me.
ouch! Sorry Don. We had a day of 80 but windy since a front is coming through. Played 18 with my Dad today. Shot 75...but it's a course where misses aren't terribly penalized. but I did putt well, and I drove the ball OK. Chipping was still an issue and the course conditions are still challenging. but it was fun.
Used the Titleist AVX ball a lot today..still soft...still long...still straight. Hard to know much about spin around the greens as everything is dormant still
My course is set to open Monday, but I don't expect there will be many takers as it's forecast to be cold and wet all week. We're currently waiting on the ice storm of the decade that's supposed to start later today with accumulations of ice in excess of 1"! It's going to be a long weekend!
the crazy spring (or Sprinter, as it has been called) continues. Saturday was 80, Sunday was 40. We couldn't play on Saturday due to a prior obligation, so we went to the range to hit a few balls. Fingers crossed for next weekend.
Yes Aimee, strange winter/spring. Was 75 today and will be 50 tomorrow....and 79 on Wednesday
Got our 2nd round in, temps in high 50’s by the end of the round, not too much wind, only a couple of holes. Greens had been aerated last week, not healed due to grass not growing much yet. Lots of clumpy lies around the greens. Shot 91 again, one par. Shot that made me happy was a short one into a green, I had 65 yards to the pin and my GW is 70 yards, I was able to dial in the distance perfectly, was a bit off line, but getting short game touch back is the big issue after winter layoff.
Wow, nice touch Aimee. My short game is still very lacking.
Played 9 today...eehhh, not real happy with the overall outcome. but started cold, meaning no warm up at the range. Had just spent 5 hrs in the car coming back from the beach but needed some exercise so decided to walk 9. didn't putt well and still not chipping well. Managed to hit a couple good drives today but only a couple. Still working on the swing and the irons where OK today. I flushed a few of them but clearly not all. Did get out of the bunkers ok but I still have the problem that I'm carrying it too long out of the bunkers. If I need to hit it short out fo the bunker, that's a problem right now. It's a solid shot just carry too far in the air. Maybe I'll try choking down more.
Also noticed today I think all the losing weight and exercising is making my hit the ball a little further. With my wedges, the last couple rounds I've hit it past my intended target. So today I had the chance to need to hit a 95 yard uphill wedge shot. Grabbed my 58degree which I used to hit about 98 yard. Hit that just over the green which meant it carried more like 102-103-105 yards. Something like that. So to confirm it, on a next hole I had 123 yards to the pin. I grabbed my gap wedge, which used to count for about 117 yards. I hit that past the pin in the fringe - carry. So that means I hit it more like 125 yards. All fine, just needing to dial in so I can swing with confidence of how far it's going to fly
Will be warming up here this week mostly 70's. So if it doesn't rain I'll get a couple rounds in. Hoping to hit the range tomorrow and keep working on chipping and swing consistency.
