Walked 9 today after work..it

Walked 9 today after work..it's nice the the daylight is staying lite until about 715-730.  I started about 5 and finsihed 9 holes in about 90 minutes.  No one in front of me so just played.  hit a couple differnent shots here and there like some ball-aobve-my-feet chips, trying different techniques.  Overall played well.  Drove the ball well.  Hit a few nice iron shots.  probably shot 3 or 4 over for the 9 holes if I had been counting my first tee shots.  One of those bogeys was a 3 putt bogey.  Long Par 5 ,... on the green in regulation but left the first uphill putt short and then misread the next one.

Liking the new putter ... very easy to setup and seem to be lining it up pretty well.

Sunday

Sunday round at our links style course. It had been aerated the end of March so the greens were full of holes and sand. Grass not really growing much yet, but starting to see the hardier stuff (ie, weeds) poking up. Played with our friend and his son again, walked 18 playing 3 different sets of tees in 4 hours, nice. Shot 42/47, had a couple of melt downs on the back 9 (trapped in bunkers, argh) and of course putting is kind of a joke with the conditions. Got tremendous roll out due to hard/dry/dead grass conditions. Hit a couple of GIR due to the ball rolling on to the green. A familiar complaint...if I could find someplace with good practice bunkers and get some lessons, I'd be golden. It kills me.

Aimee, what sort of sand is

Aimee, what sort of sand is in your bunkers?   thin hard pan of thick and fluffy?   We used to have hard pan b ut with the redesign we have the white fluffy stuff.  I had to change wedges I used to a more bounce wedge now ...  works much better.

PLayed 9 yesterday...Not bad...driver was pretty good.  One great drive then decent on the others.  Had to take an unplayable on one though because I was like Furyk a few weeks ago..having to stand on a edge over water...and choose not to risk falling in.  Irons, hit a few more flush ones which was nice.  Hit a few good bunker shots - greenside and fairway.  Putted well with the new putter.  Really liking it for whatever reason,...setup is solid and then the alignment is easy.    Was 2 over after 5 with the unplayable penalty.  Went Bogey Bogey birdie...Then hit one bad iron shot on 9 that lead to a double...basically 30 yards UPHILL to a tight pin with bunkers everywhere...hit a nice solid chip out of the rough but the ball skirted into the back bunker..Missed a couple other birdie chances butgave them a chance so all and all pretty good 9 holes. Shot 40.

Sand

Scott, the sand is inconsistent. Some bunkers were fixed up and have good soft sand, others have hard stuff that is more mud like and you have to pick pebbles and rocks out to not damage your club. Actually the packed stuff is usually fairway and I can pick out of it, it is the fluffy greenside bunkers that give me fits. Have tried different bounce, it is my technique, not the club.

Walked 18 today...well 16..

Walked 18 today...well 16...played through a couple guys so I could get done...Overall played pretty well.   Driver swing was generally good.  I have a tournament there tomorrow and was trying to practice the new greens and test some break on different parts of the green.  iron wise, hit several flushed irons but also missed some too.  Had a couple good looks at birdie but missed them all.  probably shot 77 or 78 but I was hitting multiple shots so not a real round.   It was rainy so I had the course to myself for most of the day, until I made the turn and caught those other 2 trying to start on the 10th tee.

Saturday

Saturday round at our links style course since we had some rain overnight, we teed off later than usual (12:20) to allow time for the weather to clear out and for the course to dry out a bit, worked out well because we actually had some sun peeking out of the clouds during the afternoon. Played with our friend and a single that was sent out with us, he was pretty mediocre/poor considering his fancy PXG irons that he was so proud of. Anyhow...I shot around 90, had a couple of bad holes and still having the issue of blocking my driver right too many times. However, 4 rounds in to the season I'm pretty pleased how dialed-in I am on my wedge shots, I am hitting my distances really well (half and full shots). That allows me to have a putt for par even without a GIR. It will be nice when the aeration is healed, the holes are still disrupting putting since the grass isn't grown in yet. It is pretty hilarious when your ball stops on a side of a hill going downhill because the aeration holes act as stops.

Played in constant rain

Played in constant rain Saturday for a member event - 6 holes best ball, 6 captains choice and 6 alternating shot.   Fun except for the constant rain.  was pretty miserable conditions.  I went through 6-7 gloves, because my rain glove floated away down a trench of water from the rain...I hit some pretty good shots here and there but lost 3 balls to water off the tee.  All totaled we finished in 3rd in our flight so not bad.  Looking forward to playing again when it's DRY!!!

rain

playing in rain like that is miserable, I had one round that soaked my shoes so badly I threw my socks away at the end. Ever since that, I try to keep a spare pair of socks in my bag! Rain gloves may keep some grip when wet, but wearing a wet glove isn't pleasant.

Well shoot...was just getting

Well shoot...was just getting my game to come around and now a foot injury....right foot is pretty painful..started during last weeks walking 9 holes and had started to get better but today I jogged a little and wham.   So seeing my doctor tomorrow...pains all in the front of my foot behind the toes..ouch.  probably another form of plantar facsitis or whatever but last time I had it, it was at the back of the foot.  And here I am due to take a hiking vacation next week.  should be ... something...

maybe you're lucky and it is just strained tendons, Michael had something similar happen. Ice helped him, along with avoiding impact (like running).

Sat-wind

Saturday's round again at our links style course since we had a lot of rain on Friday. It was insansely windy. Steady 15 mph and gusting higher...which dried out the fairways and greens, but was difficult to play in. Not a good round to try to work on my swing post-lesson, I was too distracted by keeping my balance and not getting blown over. At one point I had a really close putt and the flagstick (which we had left in) flexed over so far from the wind that it hit me. If I break the round into thirds, I had probably 1/3 good holes. On the back nine I had 2 pars and a birdie (par 3). I decided to deal with the wind on a short par 3 by just hitting a low running 7 iron onto the green (pin was in front) and I almost holed it. I would have been embarassed if that was my first hole in one. Wound up shooting in low 90's, putting was OK since the greens are coming along. You can tell that some parts of the course must get more sun or something, the greens don't all heal at the same rate. Anyhow, I'll likely keep score more diligently starting in May since conditions won't be a major factor. I decided not to pay for GHIN, since I'm not going to play in any tournements, but I'll keep my scores.

Saturday

Saturday at Mercer Oaks West, we hadn’t played it for a couple of weeks due to wet conditions. It was in nice shape, grass is growing fast now. Couple of soft spots in fairways but not impactful. Had a little spritz of rain on the front nine, back nine it was pretty nice. Shot 87...but not happy with my play. I had 6 pars, putted decently, didn’t lose any balls to the water or woods...but I am struggling with my driver. Some of the work I did in my lesson is translating to other clubs (hitting hybrids well) but I am not able to get it going with driver, still blocking right. Good distance, but off line. Need to get to the range.

Still early Aimee, still time

Still early Aimee, still time to work out the driver.   I'm in a foot boot for a few weeks.. Was on vacation last week hiking which was dumb I know.  but I had planned that trip for 3 years...so I tried to take it easy as much as I could ... now trying to use the boot a lot to rest it.  but have 2 different work trips this month so we'll see how I can manage the boot during travel.  Sucks.  My course membership is expiring this month and I probably wont play at all...and the weather has finally turned good...grrrrr

Marginally better

Saturday’s round at Mercer Oaks West netted better than expected weather for once. Hitting driver marginally better but still not where I want to be. Had 3 pars in a row on the back nine, had 1 par on front. Missed about 6 putts by literally a half inch, I seemed to have the speed but just a hair off on the line, very frustrating. Wound up with 93, no balls lost.

Aimee...how "short" is your backswing?   I've found now if I can keep my hands from going to far in the swing, say making more like a 3/4 swing with the driver and irons, I make much more consistent contact with the ball.  Julie's swing gets very long...though she thinks it's not..until I show her a video...and she has a hard time not getting it out of whack by the time she gets back

Saturday

Scott, my backswing isn’t too long I am probably short of parallel because if I swing too far it makes my issue of hips turning before hands get thru even worse. We played Mercer Oaks West again, fairly soft as there was some rain overnite, but mostly OK. Got off to a slow start, couple of doubles on the front nine, but only 15 putts and I did get 2 pars due to one putts. Back 9 was a bit better, wound up with 43, had 2 pars and the rest were bogies. One GIR and 15 putts also. Putter and wedge were getting it done. I had a flop/chip that landed 1-2” from the hole. I am hitting my irons really well, need some practice time with the driver, not going to fix that playing once a week.

So today, I couldn't resist

So today, I couldn't resist and went and rode 9 holes.  Actually got 11 in before I ran into so many people that I just bagged it.  I didn't need to be playing anyway with the foot but the weather was nice and warm so I gave it a shot.  Wasn't worried about score and usually hit like 3 balls from the fairway to the greens, sort of like a course "driving range" afternoon.  Driver wise, I used it on 6 of the 11 and found the fairway in 5.  Short game was a mess to begin with but got better.  And putting was OK.  3 putted a couple greens but also had a 2 putt birde on a Par 5 i reached in 2 and then another short birdie putt as well.  Was nice to be out there before the weekend crowds hit..I plan to relax this weekend and rest up.  Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend.

Weekend

Michael and I played in the afternoon on Saturday, teed off 2:30, got to play by ourselves and finished in just under 3 1/2 hours, didn’t have to stop. I didn’t score well due to a couple of mishaps with getting out of traps, but the swing was OK and putted decently. Had 2 pars. Wound up with a 92.

There was a bit of a mix up with our tee time today...Michael cancelled it by mistake. He actually wasn’t going to play because he is having a terrible time with allergies...I went to the course and that was when I found out about my problem. Our friend who we were supposed to play got there a little before me, grabbed a spot for him and his son, he saw me heading to the clubhouse and told me what happened. Perfect day, course was packed, I didn’t feel like waiting for an hour so I picked him up at home and went to the range.

Don't blame you Aimee.  I don

Don't blame you Aimee.  I don' tlike playing in packed conditions and right now that's what we have.  Now becvause it's 95 here, its actually not been too bad when I went over but most weekends now, it'll be packed.

Doctor said my foot is healing..I have one more trip this weekend that'll probably involve a lot of walking so I'll use the boot.  Might be about 3 weeks in the boot maybe more.  We'll see how it goes...she said I could do whatever my body felt like it could do...so I might hit the range here and there.

Saturday

Saturday at Mercer Oaks East, our links style course. The fescue and grasses have grown in nicely, so the course is looking good. Plenty green with all of the rain this spring. We played with our friend and his son, conditions were much windier than I had anticipated, 10-15 mph pretty much all day, gusting higher at times. Course was playing firm and fast, so low shots were rolling forever. I finally felt like I had my hands leading on the drive, only mishit 2 (block right) when I didn’t focus on the setup. Didn’t pull any short irons or wedges left, either. Shot 41/42 for an 83, 6 GIR, 6 pars, 1 birdie, 32 putts. No 3 putts, no balls lost. Couple of lip out putts, could have broken 80 today.

Wow!  Very Nicely done, Aimee

Wow!  Very Nicely done, Aimee!

I've been out a couple of times so far this year.  Not a lot, but more than I managed over the same time frame last year.  My game is pretty poor, although it did start to come around a bit over the last few holes the last time out.  Can't have much in the way of expectations after such a long layoff and still being less than 100% health.

We are moving in about a month, so I'm not sure how much golf we will get in this year.  Certainly no more than once in  while until after we are moved and begin to get settled.  This is something that we had been planning on for a while, it just came together a bit quicker than we had anticipated.  I'm looking forward to the change in lifestyle that this will bring as we are moving into town after living most of my life in the country.  A large house and large property just became to onerous to maintain.

We are moving to a different area so this will be my last year working (and playing) at the course I have called home for close to 10 years now.  It's suprising how many former co-workers that you run into over time.  I will miss this connection.  AS it stands we will be looking for a new course to play in the coming years, hopefully one that will provide us with an equally rewarding experience.

Sat round

saturday on Mercer Oaks West, pretty breezy and a little damp in areas still from the rain we had on Thursday. This coming week the early forcast shows chance of rain literally every day, so who knows what that means for playing next weekend. The course was in outstanding shape, the fairways were green carpets. Got paired with 2 older guys who were very nice, but who lost a lot of balls in the woods so our round took a bit longer than it should have. I am at the tail end of a cold so I wasn’t sure how that would affect my focus/play, was a bit fuzzy-headed and my focus was not there at times, but I managed an 88 with 6 pars, 2 GIR, 30 putts. The pars were mostly due to one putts, I had several approach shots that I pinned. On the back 9 I had 4 pars in a row. Driving was not as good as last week, I really wasn’t able to concentrate like I needed to. No balls lost.

I got out Saturday...had a

I got out Saturday...had a tee time for today but got out Saturday so today I could watch golf!  Foot has been doing better so i think i'm getting close.  Wore my golf sandles as they have a firmer sole.  Overall, please to be able to play..and the foot not swell up after.  Went double-bogey and bogey on the first 2 holes...3 putting both. But I did hit 2 great shots on #2 to reach the green in regulation.  I figured putting and chipping would be a challenge with the layoff.  And  they were.  The 2nd is a 470 pard 4, usually into a little wind.  I hit driver - 7I and had a birdie look but came up way short which lead to the 3putt.

next hole I hit a solid 7I again over water on the Par 3 third hole.  Missed birdie but was happy I struck the ball well.  Wound up going Par-Par-Par-birdie-Par-bogey-Par to shot 3 over for the 9.  So nice finish.   There was a backlog on 10 so we replayed the front 9 again..but only played 1 and 2 and 9 because it was crowded as well.  At that point I figured going home and icing down my foot was a good idea.

May try to play this week - but we have weather where it could rain, could thunderstorm or could not.  So we'll see.  But seems like I may not be in the boot too much longer.

Well took another step

Well took another step forward Friday.  Got out and played 18, with a cart.  Seemed to go well foot wise.  Was going to play Saturday morning but as I walked around on it a bit there was a little pain there so I said no and just tried to take it easy.  Feels pretty good today, a little swelling but no pain.  So we're making progress.

Overall the round started pretty good.  Missed a short birdie putt on 1 over-reading the break.  #2 downwind downhill Par 5, I hit a solid drive and literally had 119 yards into the green but again..down wind, down hill, my SW went over the green.  Short game was a culprit all day and I didn't get up and down so got a Par.  Wound up getting 2 birdies on 4 and 5 to be 2 under after 6...and the wheels sort of come off a bit.  Bad tee shot on 8 but managed to save par, and a terrible tee shot on 9 followed by another poor swing that left me under a bush.  Almost chipped in for bogey on the green but didn't.  Double.   Good tee shot on 10 before pulling a wedge into a greenside bunker. Out but over the green, couple chips, another Double.  Wound up making a few more bogeys over the next few holes plus anotehr double- also due to a bad tee shot and 3 putt.  Sigh.    Thought I realized what I was doing wrong and decided on the short par 4 16 to roll the dice and hit driver.  Well hit looking like it might make the green when I hits cart path and goes OVER the green into the rough - very much uphill shot.  End up with bogey before going Par - Birdie on the last 2 holes to shoot 79.

All and all, can't complain.  I hit some good shots...the laziness that I got into off the tee which lead to 2 doubles plus the poor short game (somewhat expected) were my undoings.  But lots of positives and the foot is doing OK so...Heading to Chicago for work for a few days..will try to play next weekend.

I played Saturday, it was

I played Saturday, it was pretty breezy, wind affected some shots. Our friend needed to play earlier so we were paired with 2 guys whowere very nice, but they were in a cart and kept rushing ahead. Since Michael and I walk, they should have stayed alongside us. Michael had to warn them several times to watch out because they were in the line of fire. They would often forget that I had to hit off the tee after everyone else. One of them was on his phone a lot on the front 9, sounded like work issues. Needless to say, once my timing gets thrown off I seem to get all messed up on my swing tempo. I didn’t focus enough on my swing, rushed my putts, and had poor results. Wound up shooting around 93-95. Lost one ball in a flooded sand trap.

Back to form

Played with our usuals today and got back to form in a big way. My putter was ON FIRE I had seven one putts and they were of sizeable distance. Shot 42/39 for 81, no balls lost, 5 GIR, 9 pars, 1 birdie, total of 29 putts. I think that was the first sub-40 nine on my home course. If I hadn’t started out slow on the first 3 holes...
