Golf Club Reviews and Discussions
Well played 5 and a half rounds in the last 6 days...whew the back needs a rest. 3.5 rounds in the mountains and 2 rounds in my club championship...needless to say the swing did not hold up for all that. Shot mid 80s and low was an 81. Rounds in teh club championship were 88 and 85 but tipped out so pretty hard courses from those tee boxes. Putted pretty good most days but driver would not be good when the irons where. And chipping was OK but not great. Bladed several over the green during my mountain golf.
So lots to work on still...
Golf is a game that can only be played...
Had the day off today so Michael and I drove a little and played at the Rutgers University golf course. We had played there once before several years ago. It is pretty flat, nothing special, but not a bad layout except for maybe 2-3 holes that are pretty close together. It was in pretty decent shape, some bare patches on the fairways, but the greens were good and very fast. Tee boxes were like concrete from lack of rain, they must water the fairways and greens pretty well. Little bit on the longer side for me, had a hard time getting any GIR. Left the scorecard behind, so I don’t know my stats, but I shot around 90-92 I think. No balls lost.
It's not how...it's how many
Saturday I hit the range to work on my over-the-top start to my downswing. wasn't happy with most of the session...though did sorta find something toward the end. But walked 12 holes today (my course makes stopping after 9,12, or 15 holes pretty simple) and played pretty well most of the day. Didn't score well but hit the ball pretty well. Actually drove the ball really consistent all day. The thing i found on irons the day before worked pretty well though I over-cooked a draw here and there. Shot 41 from the tips (Par 35 - 3600 yards) on the front with 3 Pars, 1 birdie, 2 doubles and 3 bogeys. 1 of those doubles was a poor bunker shot where I didn't get out..then I hit the sitck and kicked 15 ft away. The Other was also from a bunker but basically misread each putt. All and all felt like I played pretty good just didn't get any breaks. On holes 10-12, hard 0 FIR and onlky 1 GIR and went Bogey-Bogey-Bogey. Not bad shots just none were great.
Played Saturday back at our regular course, the other one in the complex is starting to come back since we’ve had cooler temps and some rain, so likely to play that next time out. I played terrible, thankfully Michael and I played as a twosome so I didn’t have any witnesses! It was quite cool, 50 degrees when we teed off and I always have an issue when I have to wear layers because I think my arms disconnect from my body too much. On top of that, putting was not “on”, so as I got more frustrated, I just stopped focusing and was hacking away. I may have some time to squeeze in a lesson on Friday, I think I need a re-set since we still have another month or so of playing.
We have snow this morning so no golf in my forecast for a week or so at least. Yesterday it was 83 and this morning it's down to 20 and snowing. Forecast is for a low of 13 Friday morning with a high of maybe 24 at most. This storm is headed East as usual, so look out everyone East of Denver.
Putting is easy if you have the Right Putter.
SNOW? wow. it's been scortching on the east coast. On a road trip in Cali this week so no golf for me.
Mostly sunny and close to 70 degrees today. No snow here, averaging mid-60's for the upcoming week. We actually got some rain last week, so the ground isn't rock hard, too...and the grass seed we planted in our front lawn is coming in nice and green.
Sunday played Mercer Oaks West, first time we had been back there since July. The greens were good but the damage in the fairway is not totally healed, hopefully it will come back fully in the Spring...still some bare patches and tufts where the seed took. I tried to incorporate the things I got in my lesson the prior day, had some good results. Work in progress, at least things have improved. I didn't score particularly well, wound up with a 93 (only one par) but I also had 3-4 just-missed putts and a lip out on #18 that would have given me par. My mistakes were more mental (ie, poor shot or club choice), so I came away feeling OK. No balls lost, only went in to one fairway bunker all day, no greenside bunkers.
YES. Snow on the ground this past week. It was 83 on Wendesday and then got down to 9 Friday morning, for a new record low for the day and 74 degree swing. Back to normal most of this week at least. Thursday forecast is for 81 so I might have to get out and work off the rusty swing.
Played 9 today...well 8..lost my phone when it fell out of a pocket so I skipped one hole to go back and find it. Rain coming in tomorrow so might not play for a few days. Overall played OK. 4 over after 3... Bogeys and a double on the first 3 holes ... but this was straight from car to tee to try and get out in front of some groups. So no practice or putting. 3 putted the first green. Drove the ball pretty good most of the holes. No birdies but shot the last 5 holes in 1 over. sort of finding a way to not come over the top as much. We'll see if it holds up.
Well started well..walked 9 today before rain came in... Birdied the 1st hole...then went bogey, bogey, bogey, par, par, bogey, bogey, double. Sigh. Shot 41 on Par 35. Now I was tipping it out..so pretty long and hard course. Drove the ball pretty well until holes 8 and 9.. bad bad drives then. bogeyed both Par 3s..one was 235 yards the other 190 yards. Narrowly missed a couple decent looks at birdie putts. Overall liked how I played till #8.
Walked 9 late yesterday trying to beat the rain coming in..made by about 30 minutes....Tipping out my course which means about 7100 yards for 18 holes. .birdied the first hole so good start. Then 3 bogeys in a row...though one hole is a 490 Par 4 and another is a 235 Par 3 over water. So with those hole pretty much any miss was going to leave you with Bogey or worse. Lipped out a Par on #4 but then had good birdie opportuntiies on #5 and 6 but missed them on the edge. Then finished bogey Bogey Double..on a 190 par 3, 575 yard Par 5 and a 460 Par 4. The last two I had bad drives which put me a shot down. Drove the ball well befofe those 2 holes.
Funny thing...So after the bad drive on #9, I waited for Julie to hit her tee shot on the forward tees, about 290 yards from the green. So I teed up a ball there as well to not leave on a poor drive note..and hit a nice little fade up the hill...Little did I know with the roll from the dry conditions, I drove the green and was left with a 20 ft putt for "eagle" which I made ... so was kinda funny. Doubled with my original ball based on the punch through the woods, etc. So overall shot a 6 over for that 9 holes.
Scott, nice "eagle"...would have been ironic if you holed that shot! We went back to the links style course since they are aerating it on Monday and we won't be able to play there for 2 weeks. It was in really good shape with the rain and cooler temps the grass is nice in the fairways and greens. I shot 91, felt that I played a little better (hit some good straight drives), but still work to do, I had a couple of blow ups. 30 putts, 4 pars (no GIR), no balls lost. Which is hard to say as the Fall is upon us and with the lower sun glare and start of the leaves falling...conspire to make spotting the ball much harder. The 17th hole in particular, which has a lake behind it, is directly into the sun and has a narrow tree-lined fairway (the one exception to the links style, since it is protected wetland, they had to leave the trees). We also had a delayed start due to the first frost of the season, when we got to the course it was backed up a bit over an hour, but they made up some time and we wound up getting off around 40 minutes after our tee time.
frost on the greens??? leaves??? ohh..it is getting to be that time of year. Our mail course removed a ton of trees while closed last year... they do a good job blowing them off during the week but I found a couple balls this week people had lost over to the sides where they all are. unfortunately no tour quality balls LOL.
Played today..unseasonably warm and clear .. well some rain overnight chased people away since the course was cart path only. we saw very few people .. we walk so doesn't bother us. Hit the ball much better than I scored today. Just managed to miss something somewhere, usually putting or put my drive on the side of the fairway were trees were and can't reach the green. shot like 84 ... but should have been much better. only had 2 pars on the front side..should have had at least 2-3 more but ran putts way buy or struggled in the bunkers. Best shots were a couple really good hit 4hybrids.
WE got 5 iches of snow Sunday into Monday morning, and now we have another 6 inches over night today. As of 10:00AM I had 6 inches of new snow and it's been snowing ever since so I have no idea how much we will get before it's over sometime Wednesday or early Thursday morning. Good news is it's LIGHT snow that's easy to shovel with the tempertures not getting above 15 all day. Currently it's all fo 12 degrees and not expected to get much higher any time soon. I"m glad you got some golf in Scott as you mgiht no have much of a chance as this storm is headed your way. Good luck to all of your back East. Evoer and Out from the Denver Colorado area.
I saw that on TV Don..didn't you guys set a record in terms of low temp for yesterday?
WE set a new record for the coldest temp for the month of October when it got down to a low of only 3 degrees overnight. Rather HIGH humidity as well with all the snow on the ground so it felt really cold for those of us that are spoiled by our normally dry air. My three dogs did NOT care too much for the cold either as their feet got cold walking in all the snow. One of my dogs was limping due to his feet being so cold it must have hurt his paws. The wnow is deep enough that his belly was touching the snow as he made his way around the backyard. Four or five minutes out there and all three of them are ready to come back inside to get warm.
I played last weekend, nothing memorable. The temps were pretty good, low to mid 60's and the sun was out for the front 9 and it got cloudy on the back 9. Didn't lose any balls to the leaves or the pond on #9 (although I came close, I didn't hit my 2nd shot solidly and the ball skipped off the water and onto the grass between the edge of the pond and the green. I kind of feel like I'm losing interest for the end of the season, I'm playing to try to work on my swing at this point. It is marginal whether I'll play on Saturday, the forcasted temp is right on the border of play/no play for me (low/mid 50's) so I'll wait until Friday night probably and see how the wind will be. Sunday will be too cold to play, not much above 50 (of course in the winter, if we had a 50 degree day in Feb., everyone would be rushing to get out and play).
Work and weather got in the way of much golf for me this past week. DST change will hurt now too with less daylight. Walked 9 todfay (ok, 8 - because there was a slow 4some in front of us and we just skipped over one hole). Not a lot of great golf on my part today. Wrong glasses for golf - my eyes seem to be particular in terms of how the green looks when I'm wearing the wrong pair..weird...but these affect my depth perseption. But that wasn't the big thing..iron play was not good..well most swings - my over the top start was evident today. Hit a few good iron shots but too many pulled or sliced. Driver was going both sides of the fairway today because of that over the top.
But walking in the mild afternoon sun was still better than not playing at all. Really need to hit the range and work on stopping the over the top start to my swing. Weather should be good this week for me to get out and our range has lights so .. maybe..
Got in 9 .. DST is killing my late afternoon and after work golf. Drove the ball really well. Had 6 of 7 FIR...and the one was through the fairway into a bunker. But wound up hitting into 5 bunkers (1 fairway and 4 greenside) on the first 5 holes so ... all bogeys. GotPars on #6 and #7 followed by barely missing an eagle on #8..and then again finding a greenside bunker than led to a closing bogey. At least i got out of all those OK.. But 5 over for the 9 holes, about my handicap average.
Played 9 holes today... Started off not great. Hit the first tee shot into a fairway bunker to a plugged lie. Had a chance to save par but missed it. The next hole was a double due to catching a tree on my approach shot. So +3 after 2 but things got better from there. 220 yard Par 3, I hit my 4H to about 2 ft, made birdie. Next hole I almost holed out for eagle from the fairway. second birdie. Then had 2 Pars in a row before bogeying the last Par 3. But then went birdie Par to finish 1 over. Best scoring round I've had in a while.
