Illegal or not

Some of our rural golf course neighbor adjacent farm land.   And sometimes the cources don't have driving ranges.   Occassionally I'll see someone go off, away from the #1 tee box, tee up a few golf balls and hit them into the adjacent farm land.    So the question is, is that legal?    I know there are rules for "teeing outside the box" on the teeing ground, and there are rules for practicing the course before play.    But technically they are not on the first tee and aren't practicing the course and their round hasn't started.    Are there other rules that would come into play here?

legal

if they are hitting balls before they actually started their round, it is not practicing during the round and therefore I'd say legal. Especially if the area they are hitting from is OOB. Do it yourself driving range.

I would say it's the same

I would say it's the same thingas hitting balls on the drivinng range before the round, or putting on the priactice green before the round. I WOULD think that the person doing this would be open for a charge of Littering for hitting balls onto the neighboring land. I sure would not like it if it was my land IF I didn't play golf and had no use for the free golf balls.

Putting is easy if you have the Right Putter.

Just go out and pick the

Just go out and pick the balls up, clean them off and sell them back to the golf course as used balls.  The adjacent landowner has now created a cottage industry!  wink

Sell back

at our golf course there is a lake alongside one of the holes, if you want to hit the green in two you usually need to cut the corner over the lake...many time kayakers hang out at that point to retrieve wayward balls then paddle close to the shoreline to offer to sell them back.
