Welcome CAC, NIce to see you

Welcome CAC, NIce to see you .   You shoot pool as well as golf?  8ball?  9ball?   or ?   I shoot as well, usually 9ball but sometimes we switch our team to 8ball .

Tell us about yourself and your golf game?  Nice to have a new member to add to the group.

Cheers Scott, Im currently at around 15 hcap and have yet to break 80, dont hit the ball that far, around 2oo-220 on a good hit but would like to change that.

Play 8 ball in my local league to a decent standard, could be better, playing for 30 years, still not mastered it lol.

Been running for about 18 months, got a pb last week in a half marathon, 1h 51m. more to come. i am 49 years old, over,

Welcome to the site CAC

It's great to have you here CAC. We are a rather small group here so an extra member or two is most welcome. I've been playing this crazy game for 14 years now. I WAS down to a 5 handycap before some health issues got in the way. Now my handycap is being OLD, FAT and out of sharp. If I make it to mid April, I'll turn 69 of the 15th. I think I'll make it but a recent heart attack is NOT making it easy on me. Time to got to my weekly Cardiac Rehab class. so I ll type at you more later.

Don, hope the recovery goes

Don, hope the recovery goes well!    Just stay patient.

Cac, Don is the long hitter in the group and a great one to bounce ideas about clubs/components/shafts, etc off of.

I've been playing...hmmmm...thats scary...30 some years I suppose..took up the game when I was just out of high school...shot like 129 the first time I played..and that was probably with some gimmies :)   Handicap's down to a 4 now but really should be more like an 8-12.  On a good day I can shoot mid-low 70s but usually it's a 77-82.  We'll see how this year goes...my back is starting to worry me a little, keeps tweaking and getting me down.

Just started to look at the

Just started to look at the science of swing speed, smash factor angle of attack etc etc. I just purchased a Voice caddie SC100 to measure my SS and it comes out at about 84 mph. The distance I am hitting the ball would suggest I am hitting down on the ball. My plan is to increase my SS to 90-95 and increase my AOA to +5. If I can suceed in these aims then I predict my drives would be near 240-250 with roll out. I have already been in corespondance re this and it has been suggested a chang in ball position to increase AOA and an excersise program to increase SS. Im not looking for a quick fix, this is a long term program. I think if successful I should see results whithin 6 months. All advice appriciated. CAC. Bit like long distance chess Scott as I dont think we are online at the same time at any point. :)

Check out the SST swing speed timer

I would highly recommend the SST Swing Speed Timer by Sports Sensor company. You can find them online. I got two of their timers, one is the SST/TT and the other is the SST unit. The difference is that the SST/TT will also measure your Tempo Time as well as your Swing Speed. Last I checked which was quite awhile ago, the price was $150 for the SST/TT and $100 for the SST unit. When I first got my timers, I measured my driver speed and it was at 97 MPH. After only about a week of testing different things that I had read about or hear about to increase swing speed, I was up to 105-108 MPH. Not bad for a weeks worth of trying different things and well worth the investment of my time and moey in my opinion.

Great going john, at the

Great going john, at the moment I can only dream of those speeds. My sc100 gives swing speed but the ball must be hit unlike the SST. Couple of issues I've got are. 1. I'm CAC handed ( right hand high, right handed grip).  2. I've got a short back swing as in it just about gets to vertical( 12 o clock ). Cac. I could show you but don't know how to add a video off my ipad sad

I have the same swing speed

I have the same swing speed device Don's talking about.  it is good.  I also have a club-based device from 3bays which integrates with your Ipad (via an app) and gives you some swing data as well.  you see more of those out there today.  I like it becuase it's easy to use and try different things in my swing and see if they produce any results.

But either way, either  device can help.

I found that the tempo I took the club back with had a big impact on my impact force and ball speed.  Also though have foudn recently a shorter backswing with full wrist cock is helping me add distance too.  And it's easier to control.  So lots of little things in the swing you can tweak and see what impact they have...
