New Tour Championship format

WHat do you think about 'handicapping' the Tour championship as it's being done where before the event starts the players are seed and under Par scores from -10 down to even par?   They say it's easier for the fans to follow and I guess it is.  "winner" take all and nothing really too the person who shoots the lowest four day score as they might have been too far behind to make up -10 strokes.     But was it that confusing when Tiger won the event last year but Rose won the Fedex Cup?   I guess I see the Cup as a year long race and this "last" event is just one of many.  So to me, last years ending was fine and didn't need fixing.

to be honest, I wasn't even aware of the format. I follow golf, I watch golf, but I guess I'm still in the "casual fan" category with most others. Frankly I'm not sure how many people care about the formatting. The FedEx Cup has always seemed so random, with guys who win at opportune times getting it even though they don't win certain events. I don't know, it seems like such a marketing ploy I just don't care to follow it.

It's not how...it's how many

When the FedEx Cup started,

When the FedEx Cup started, it was to find the BEST golfer over the course of a years worth of tour events. Now it's more about who does really well at the end of the season as those events carry more points then the earlier events did. Today it's more about getting golfers to WATCH the last 3 events to make money on TV ads. So they try to make the end result "up For Grabs" right up the end. It is NOT what it was designed to be when it started and I think it's lost the impact it once had. the MONEY is still nice, but the title is not what it was meant to be.

Good to see you post Don.

Good to see you post Don.  When NASCAR started this thing, their "playoffs" format, they had to tweak it year after year.  Still doing it.  I guess the Tour needs too as well.   Not sure people care as much about it as they believe they do...

The ONE good thing about this

The ONE good thing about this latest version of the FedEx system is that the VIEWERS at home and the fans on the course KNOW who is ahead and who is close behind, just by LOOKING at the leader board. NO more having to add up points for finishing secone or what ever to see who might be in the lead at the moment. Last year and years before, they would have to have someone EXPLAIN the standings as they went along and guess who might win at the end. Now it's up there on the leader board for all to see at a glance. It's now simple and easy to understand and it should have been done a long time ago in my opinion.
