Tiger's coming to the Wyndham.

So I have tickets for Thursday's round, Sedgefield is just about 45 minutes from me.  And now we confirm Tiger will be playing.  Great.  i think he needs tournament rounds to get his mentality right again.  Sounded like he thought he didn't swing that badly at the PGA even though he didn't score well, so I think it's good for him to play back to back and try to build on that.

Now I'm hearing people crazily saying they don't want him to play, that he wouldn't play here when he was #1 in the world, they don't want him now that he can't make a cut!  Which I think is insane.  He's good for the event, good for the ticket sales, good for the local economy.  Actually I am curious if he finds how well the pro's get treated at the Wyndham, if in fact he would think about coming back next year.

Anyway, I expect I'll wait for him to get to a few holes Thursday so we can see him.

Is Tiger still a big draw???

I have to wonder how much of a draw Tiger is these days. HIs GAME is NOT what it used to be, so he has lost that part of his attraction for a lot of golfers. And his personal life is a mess again, after he was dumped again, this time by his gilrlfriend for cheating on her. Seems he can't stay loyal to the people that care for him even after geting in trouble when he was married. Speaking only for myself, I would have loved to watch Tiger play golf TEN years ago. But today, I have no desire to see him play. There are dosens of other golfers that I would much rather watch out on the course, or at the practice areas.

As for this, Now I'm hearing people crazily saying they don't want him to play, that he wouldn't play here when he was #1 in the world, they don't want him now that he can't make a cut! , I can understand their point completely. Tiger ONLY played in those events he "wanted" to play in, and he ignored the others. So if Tiger didn't care one way or another about the people behind the Wyndham or the fans that came to the event. Why would they care if Tiger comes to the event now?   Colorade was the home of The International goff tourniment held held each year about 25 miles south of Denver. It was a really good event that most of the players LOVED to play in. Only problem was that TIGER never played in the event, so it DIED out. There are hundreds of people in the golf business that BLAME Tiger for the downfall of the International due to him not coming to play it. Tiger didn't CARE about the event, just like he didn't care about the Wyndnam event. So I can easily undarstand why some people in your area would not card if Tiger playedin it now. I'd feel the same way to be honest about it.

Well, you could say the same

Well, you could say the same about Phil too.  And a lot of other players.    He's never played in the Wyndham, but I bet if he annouced he was coming, there would not be the same uprising over that as there is for Tiger.   Yes, Tiger has clearly prioritized his golf events and this one didn't make the short list.  I guess that doesn't bother me that much.

I guess it didn't bother me about him not coming because we used to have this event in Mar/Apr and no one came because they were preparing for Augusta.  Well, the top draws didn't come.  Then we moved to the last event which gave it more prestige but again, the top draws didn't come because it's after the PGA and they take time off.

Early projections are without Tiger in the field, the event brings $30M to the local economy.  With him, they project $50M.   So yeah, he's still a draw even if he's not the Tiger of old.

Tiger Watch!

Funny, made it down to the Wyndham today, almost no one there EXCEPT the massive crowds following Tiger.   The other contestants had maybe 10, sometimes 20 fans walking with them, at least during the morning while Tiger was on the course.  Saw him birdie a couple holes..looked like he felt comfortable.  Shot 6-under so a couple off the pace.  If he is in the mix Sunday, I can't imagine the crowds around that place.

The course is a more traditional course, OLD Donald Ross style, lots of big mature trees, elevation changes.  It's only about 7100 yards so it's not like we're talking a LONG course, but you have to play smart.  Anyway, it was a defensless course today...soft due to the rains we've had (more today), lift-clean-place instituted, possibly again for tomorrow, NO WIND.  So you're talking about giving some of the best players in the world perfect lies and receptive greens, there's going to be low scores..

The greens are lightening quick though. near 13.  Players are saying they've not played anything this quick on tour in quite awhile.  And from what I witnessed, seeing guys barely move the putter and the ball rolled 9ft, it must be.  Would be fun to try and put on them in the shape they are...just to see how fast they really play.   The fringe probably plays as fast as our normal courses.

I hope this event is on Broadcast TV this weekend. Not all golf events are on TV these days unless it's on Pay Per View, and I don't have that, so I"m limited to what's on broadcast TV. Unlike a lot of golfers, I do not have any problems when the scores are low due to soft greens and light wind. These are the BEST golfers in the world we're talking about, so it they can't shoot well under par there must be something wrong with the course or the setup. I don't know about you, but I HATE playing on a course where the greens are so hard that a wedge shot into the greens will not hold the ball and it ends up rolling off the back of the greens. I much perfer it when a really GOOD shot is Rewarded with an excellent chance at a birdie. I really hate it when I magage to land my ball inside of 10 feet of the flag and then I have to go HUNTING for my ball to find it due to the greens being like cement. Not fun for me and I doubt there are many golfers that like it when they are playing. So I don't understand it when some golfers say they want to see the Pros on Tour "Struggle" with making par.

I'm a bit surprised that so

I'm a bit surprised that so many golf fans are still fans of Tiger. But I'm happy for the people that put on this event and the people that were helped by the larger than normal turn out.

I have to wonder how long it's going to be before Tige can play good golf for FOUR days in a row, and not fade on the weekends, which has been a trend of his recently.

Yeah, I guess we'll see next

Yeah, I guess we'll see next season.  He almost put together 4 good days here...1 hole was his undoing...but it also wasn't against Rory, or Jordan.

So it reads like Tiger might

So it reads like Tiger might not tee it up this year after all.  SOunds like he's progressing but still not physically where he wants to be.  I'm thinking it's probably a good idea to just take the whole year off (again..did he miss most of a year before???) and get too 100% if that's possible and then try it next year...Hate to see him not able to play but would rather see him try when he's 100% ...

All this time away..does that make you want it more, or learn how to live without it???

What you typed is pretty much

What you typed is pretty much what he was saying on TV this past weekend. NOT ready to play due to the body issues and his golf game is also not back to what it was. He might not play this year but he has not ruled it out  completely. When Tiger was on TOP of the golfing world, he was one of the longest hitters off the tee. Today even if he gets back to being 100 % with his body, he will NOT be near the top anymore, and that could be a real issue for him. How will he handle being 20 yards or more behind his playing partners when he does come back???? Could be interesting to see what happens when he does come back.

Looks like Tiger's pulled out

Looks like Tiger's pulled out of the Open in late july.  I think it's time for him to pull the plug on this year, continue his rehab and then be ready - if possible - next season.  Other than to get a round or two of competitive golf to see how he handles that, I think he's best served to just continue getting healthy.

I do hope he's able to return.  Not that he will be the longest hitter or the best putter.  But I'd like to see him find some of his old form and be able to compete. I don't think he'll dominate, but i hope he can compete.

FEAR factor will be GONE

One thing that Tiger had going for him back when he was winning all the time was the FEAR FACTOR. ALL of the other golfers KNEW Tiger would NOT fall apart down the stretch, and the Fear Factor was a big part of why the others failed to catch up to him. Now that Tiger's Fea factor is not an issue, the other players will not have to worry about him and they can just play their own game. With the quality of todays top players, I don't know if any golfer will Dominate the game again in the near future. Time will tel if Tiger will even be able to win again on tour, much less be one of the top ten golfers on tour. I think it's safe to say that Jack's records for tour wins and major wins is safe for now.

Yes, i don't see Tiger

Yes, i don't see Tiger putting fear in any player now.  He might have been able to get into their heads then, but not now.  Every generation has their Jack or Tiger...I guess we'll see if the next one is Day or Dustin...

Well Looks like Tiger finally

Well Looks like Tiger finally pulled the plug on playing this year, which made the most sense to me.  At this point why bother?  Just take the rest of the year to slowly improve and if he can play come back next year.  if not, retire...

I hope he comes back though.  I like watching him and you KNOW every shot of his will be televised.  Every!

Speaking of Tiger

I saw someting about Tiger pulling out of the PGA Championship a week of so ago and that he was DONE for the year as well. I guess his body is not fully healed and he has decided to pull the plug on the year and work on getting completely healthy for next year. I would be lying if I said I was surprised by this. He has not been real healthy for a long time and it's only going to hold him back if he doe's not to 100 % or at least as close to 100% as possible. Tiem will tell if Tiger will ever get back to winning again.

Tiger has gone under the

Tiger has gone under the knife again!  Further surgery in an effort to relieve the back pain that has made his comeback untennable.

At what point do you say enough is enough?  It is becoming increasingly apparent that professional sport is a young person's game when we look at the inevitable decline in performance being experienced by those over the age of 30.

We may have figured out how to maximize physical output for any given set of actions, but we have yet to discover the secret of making a body last that was only designed for a certain level of repetitive stress.  PED's helped to extend the window, but that has proven to be false God.  Just as it was for Ponce de Leon, the fountain of youth proves to be elusive.

DON
've said it before, Tiger

've said it before, Tiger needs to learn how to swing the golf clubs in a way that is NOT harmful to his body. Something like the way Fred Couple or Ernie Els swings. Tiger has Violent type of swing, one that is hard on his body. Until he learns to swing EASY he will never be healthy again, and he might as well give up on his efforts to get back to the top of the sport.
