US Open

it's been interesting to read about the Pros playing in local qualifiers for the US Open (both LPGA and PGA). Saw that Steve Stricker got a spot, good for him, he wanted to play in his home state.

There's a certain irony to

There's a certain irony to your post Aimee in that I read a recent article talking about how the US Open was no longer open due to all the exemptions that were in play in this day and age versus the historical standards for that tournament.  When you take that into account it was even more annoying to read about Adam Scott complaining that the set-up was too brutal.  He'd be the first guy who I would remove the exemption from!

Glad to hear that Stricker has qualified.  Perhaps the USGA needs to rethink the qualifying process and how many invitations they decide to hand out.

I like the fact that it is

I like the fact that it is "our" Open and it's open to anyone who can qualify pro or amateur.  Probably now there are more golfers playing in the majors long than there used to be given fitness, purses, etc. I enjoy it and I know it's a tough setup but a course that rewards play-making as much as length is refreshing i think.   Now I do think in the past there have been times the USGA setup was just wrong..to punish great shots and only reward exceptional shots to me is wrong.   And there are times there hole setups do that.  I think it's fine to punish a bad or poor shot but I think you have to have some middle ground where a good shot isn't punished too.

Glad Steve made it in.  Would love to see someone from the Champions crew make a run.  Would be fun to watch.  Driving 350 and chipping get boring.   But I don't think Erin Hills is going to allow that...

Any one know how many spots

Any one know how many spots are open for the qualiliers to get? I know a lot of the spots are for the top pros on tour, but there are also some just for those that make it through the qualilier rounds.  which is good. Just dont know how many sots are open for those guys.

It was nice to see Stewart

It was nice to see Stewart Cinm playing well again this week on tour. I understand that he too won a spot in the U.S. OPEN that is coming up. His last win the the OPEN back in 2009, so it's been almost 8 years since his last win on tour. Good to hear his wife is doing a lot better, and that is one reason Stewart is playing better. ONe less thing to worry about and more time to practice golf again.

It looks like there were quite a few.

http://www.usopen.com/qualifying/sectional.html

This page shows each sectional, national and international and has links to the results and who qualified.  Not sure if the number who qualify depends on the number of entrants, but the Japan section produced smaller numbers than the England one, so maybe there were more entrants in England?

Fowler ties OPEN record with first round 65.

I saw that Ricky Fowler tied the record with a first round 65 on Thursday. It was also interesting to see how BAD some of the top players on tour did the first round. If I remember correctly Jason Day was about 10 strokes behind after a round of 75 or so. From what I read online some of the rough is a Killer out there, being almost 2 feet deep in places. Hard to find the ball much less get it out of the thick stuff.

I think golf has to be the

I think golf has to be the one game that a persons performance can go up or down quite a lot, more so than any other sport or game. One day you can be great and the next you stink at the same game. Weird how it can change so much from one day to the next for NO apparent reason.
