Winter weather...Golf Now Rewards..

Well, a front moving in over the next few days...models call for between 3 and 23 inches of snow could be dropped...Now thats a helluva range huh?  Ha.. And I was hoping I could play golf next week.

So for 2016 Golfnow.com changed their rewards program.  This is the second change in the last 3-4 years.   It used to be, book 10 times in a calendar year and you got free booking fees the next year.  Which was great to me.  Then it went to 'everyone pays booking fees' but after you booked 10 times, and every 5 bookings there after,  you got something...So that at least was decent.  I got several $20 and $40 gift cards to Srixon/Cleveland Golf and I got free bookings.

Well for 2016 it's pretty much not worth worrying about the rewards.  For every booking you get 10 pts, or 20pts for a 'hot deal' booking.  Well at 100 points you get $10 off a Hot Deal tee time.  So now my rewards are only good towards their discounted deal times and it'll take me 5 to 10 bookings to save a little.   Looks like they must have lost the Cleveland/Srixon sponsorship. Whereas before I actually booked a few extra rounds to get up to my next reward, the only reason to book with them now is if you find a cheap deal.  Which I do find.  One of the courses we play a lot I can play for $10 + the $3 booking fee.  That's cheaper than $20 at the course.  Just not worth keeping up with the rewards really...

I just watched the weather

I just watched the weather forecast for your part of the country, and it looks like you might get aas much as 18-24 inches snow this weekend. Just what you want I'm sure. We both have NFL pllayoff games this weekend, me with the Broncos in town against New England, and you have the Panthers in town against the Cardinals I believe. Looks like low 30's here and maybe a few inches of new snow during the game. Not sure if you will be buried in snow or not come game time.

The 2016 rewards dealt with Golfnow doesn't sound like much of a deal to me either. Not sure why they have cut back the benefits. I did go to a City of Aurora golf committee meating 2 years ago, and they were NOT at all happy with any of the discount website companys, Seems that the city has to GIVE the site some tee times for FREE and then they get a small portion of the money the site makes when they sell the tee times. According to the city, it's a great deal for the website and NOT for the golf courses. This is the main reason the city is working on creating their own stare wide website site for booking tee times. With the new system, the golf courses in the state will have more control over ALL of the tee times and NOT have to give up any of the money from tee time sales to some private website.

Yeah, were up in Asheville

Yeah, were up in Asheville this weekend, left Thursday to avoid driving in the bad weather..supposed to get 12 inches here..hopefully I can get home sometime :)

Yeah, my understanding was that if you wanted to advertise on Golfnow you had to give them several tee times a day that they could sell.  Those are the ones we tend to buy because the others are waht I'd usually pay at the course.  So from my talking to courses, they usually sell the discounted times but not many of their own.  So I'm not sure why they do it....

Well survived the Western

Well survived the Western mountains of NC for a few days....we got about 10-12 inches of snow, which is a lot for us, but nothing compared to what northern areas got.  40 inches in WV?  Wow.

AS much rain as we've had over the last fewm months, even as the weather warms up this week and next, and the snow melts, the grounds are saturated so the golf courses will be dreneched this week and next.  So probably no golf for a while for me.

I hope everyone is not effected by the high water.I also just heard that there is another strom coming to the east coast by the end of this week. Just what you guys need, more cold and snow. Here in Colorado we got a Small strom coming in tonight but then it's WARM UP time for us. High in the low 60's bey Friday. '

SO I want to update my

SO I want to update my GolfNow rewards post above.  After a couple month of being able to play, I must say it's not as bad as I suggested.  They did change the program to where after earning "100 points" you get $10 off one of their "hot Deal rounds".  On the surface that didn't sound to great too me but what wasn't clear is that they give you "points" for every round you book.  Before you got credit for bookings...so booking a 4some was 1 credit.  Now, booking a 4some if 4 Rounds! That's very different.  So through maybe 6 "bookings", I have earned $30 of rewards.  Now I still can only use those on their Hot Deal rounds, where as before I got gift cards, etc.  But the fact they give you credit for each round in a booking helps.   And I tend to only use them for their Hot Deals anyway....
