So...how did you do this year on your golf game? have any milestones? lowest scores ever? Have any goals you met?
I would have liked to have played more, but work load didn't allow me to get out during the week, and it's not often I can play 2 days in a row on the weekend. I did improve some of my iron issues, and the driver. Always room for improvement, I still have problems because I don't get the practice time in to reinforce properly. I didn't keep a handicap this year, but my scores were about the same. Had a couple of low 80's, thought I might go sub-80 once this summer, but it didn't happen (too inconsistent). Heck, at my worst, I could have a 20 stroke swing in score. I guess next year I can say I'll make an effort to practice more, to see if I can iron out some of the inconsistency (hold that swing to 10 strokes at worst). Although my lack of time hitting off mats did mean that my tendonitis did not bother me at all this year, so thats a plus.

It wasn't the sort of year I was hoping for. Like Aimee, very busy at work and that cut into my week golfing, though I did start to just play 9 holes which worked out OK given how bad I was playing. Really struggled with the game this year, so had to go get lessons again which really helped. Finally toward the end of the season I was confident off the tee that the ball wasn't going to be a "toe'd slice" where I almost miss the ball due to the hard over the top (OTP) start. While the OTP is still an issue I am more aware of it in my pre-swing which helps me avoid it a lot of the time. FIxing parts of my swing gave me a little more distance with my irons that I wasn't expecting. And was generally happy with my putting using Aim Point. But my sand game regressed. So all and all my handicap ballooned early in the season and has slowly come back down to a more reasonable number.

I just noticed reading that this is the 2019 season wrap-up. I guess I'll give you my 2020 season wrap-up as a tag along to this thread.
My golf wasn't particularly good this year, in fact I seem to be going downhill since I hurt my back over 3 years ago now. But, there is light at the end of the tunnel because i was able to play 3 times a week fairly regularly this season and without anything debilitating pain wise. Oh sure, I'd be stiff at times and would struggle to get loose, but I was playing as much as I wanted to without anything really holding me back. Good thing because there wasn't much else to do what with the COVID business we're dealing with.
I did manage to get in 43 rounds this year. That's a big change from 17 in 2019 and only 23 holes played in 2018! Played in my men's league and watched my handicap balloon to a 22 from what had been an 11-12 in 2017. My biggest issues were avoiding trouble off the tee and finding any sort of touch around the greens. My short game was terrible and my putting wasn't much better... But, I'm playing and that's the main thing!
I'm glad you managed to get out a lot more this year, even if it is 2020, not 2019 as you were thinking this was about. Sorry to learn that your handicap is way up from 2017, especially when you are playing more. Should go down, not up when you play more. Have you been doing as much PRACTICE as you had a few years ago? If not that would me my estimate as to why it's up. But as you stated, it's nice that you are getting in a lot more golf. Keep it up and maybe you can get back to a 10 or so soon.

Putting is easy if you have the Right Putter.
Hey Sco...Nice to hear from you. Hope you've been well. Based on what I see at my course, a lot of people did a lot of golfing this year due tto COVID. My course is run by the county and I heard it did REALLY well this year. Nice since they just spent a few million on renvoations. Too bad about the results though...any effort to grab a lesson or two? I was struggling mightly last year late and that video lesson and some work helped a lot. But you're playing..and that's the biggest thing right?

Well..Since Sco put 2020 wrap up here, I'll do the same. Played a lot more 9 hole rounds..partly because the course was so packed due to COVID. And it only takes half the time :) ... Walking, 9 is good. Overall handicap dropped from about 7 to under 5. Biggest change was probably due to getting off the tee better. After struggling last year at times being really bad off the tee, video lessons helped me see several things I was doing and then practicing some things on the course during my 9 hole walks really helped. Been able to pick up some distance too off the tee.
Irons still ehhh. I found some things that help me hit them more solid. Some days really good, others ehh. But I still have to fight that over the top yank at the start. More times than not I pull my irons left of target than block it right.
Bunker play has gotten better - watching some videos and realizing I was getting my hands too far in front of the club - helped. I still struggle to hit short bunker shots but I'm on the green at least.
Putting - need to do better. Speeds OK but I admit while my eyesight isn't bad - I struggle to read the subtle breaks. If I can tell the break I'm usually OK. Need to make more birdie putts (right? Ha)
But overall I'm happy with the improvements this year. I actually went on a shot golf trip with some friends who I trust have been social distancing - and I shot 78. I was excited. driver worked..irons worked..putting was good. So it was nice to go to a course you haven't played and ac tually execute shots.
So we'll see how 2021 goes...main goal is to stay safe until COVID is dealt with.

What I did accomplish - got some issues worked out with my irons that allowed me to actually hit them again. The downside is I messed up my swing with FW and hybrids so as the irons improved...those clubs got worse. Only played once a week and didn't get practice time in that I needed. Hoping for a little more "normalcy" in the Spring and less issues with getting tee times!
