Christmas is just under a month away. Did you get any new toys this past year that your would recommend to others, or you would like to GET as a gift for next season ? I got a few items the past 12 months that I would highly recommend, so I will be posting a few recommended items in the next few days for the rest of you to look at. If YOU have a product you would recommend, post a reply here for the rest of us old golfers to consider.

If anyone is having issues with sore/tired/weak/strained muscles I recommend you give compression a try. I have a couple of pairs of Sigvaris sports socks -- one pair black, one in white -- that are effective and a whole lot more stylish than the typical prescription compression stockings you see many seniors wearing. I've also got a pair of shorts and a short sleeved tee from UnderArmour that are recovery compression which I have used for support when playing under normal attire.
I saw a new swing analyzer that would be fun to play with .. same concept as many others, you put caps on the end of your clubs and it track all your shots and does a lot of game analysis. Shot Scope V2 Smart Golf Watch seems simpler to use as it's a watch that gives you GPS functionality as well but then lets you analyze your shots and your game.
The other would be the VOICE CADDIE SC 200 Portable Golf Launch Monitor just to play with stats .

I just got an email from Revolution Golf and they have the SC200 on sale for $247 with free shipping. That's pretty decent for the unit. My MAIN concern about the SC200 is what they claim for it's accuracy. According to the specs. they claim it to be accurate for distance to + or - 10 %. So that means that if you are a 250 yard carry gofler with your driver, it will be accurate to plus or minus 25 yards. So that comes to 225 to 275 yards. NOT at all impressive to me. I can get kind of accuracy at the driveing range for FREE. I would HOOPE tha in sue it's a lot more accurate than +/- 10 %. The video reviews on it that I've watch claim it to be much better than that, so there might be hope for it.

Our county golf courses ran their Black Friday special once again where they give you an extra 20% value on any gift card you buy (I believe up to $500) so Michael and I bought one for $300 and we'll get a bonue one for $60. It's almost 2 free rounds!
For the all season (or 3 season) golfer I recommend wool blend socks. I wear them in the Fall and early Spring when the temps drop, they keep your feet toasty and dry. If it is wet out and your shoes leak, the wool socks will keep the moisture away from your skin. I get them at TJ Maxx/Marshalls, you can find lots of them this time of year for the Christmas gift stock up. Smartwool is a popular brand. Basically light or mid-weight hiking socks are good because they have reinforced heels to prevent abrasion blisters. I'm so practical!
It's not how...it's how many
ONe of the things I can recommend is the new AVX golf balls from Titleiest. They are a third option to go with the ProV1 and ProV1 X golf balls we all know about. I have read and watched a lot of reviews on these balls and I have to agree with what others have reposted, It is hard to see much difference between the three balls. The X does offer More spin, but not enough for most amature golfers to notice. What makes the new AVX a good option is that the come in YELLOW as well as white, so you have that option to pick from and still be playing the Titleist tour ball most golfers love. I've hit this new ball enough to say I for one can't tell much difference if any, other than being Yellow. If you like to play the old standard ProV1 or V1X, why not try the new AVx either in Yellow or white, which ever suits your eye.

I like the AVX...they play very well. Earlier this year I played them, hitting the ball longer than other balls. Since I've been working on the swing I've sort of saved that dozen ... choosing to play with the older ProVs I have. But I think the AVX is a great ball

If you are in the market for a really good laser range finder at a GREAT price, check out the VPRO DLX 1K from TecTecTec.com. It's the BEST laser I have ever used. It's super fast and good out to 1000 yards, which is much farther than any other laser I've used or read about. Price is less than $200 which is also really good. The laser I was using cost over $400 and wasn't as good as this one.

Interesting. I still use my Leopold one from a few years back. It's pretty good..haven't tried to shoot anything more than about 350 yards... (hoping I'm never 1000 yards from the pin unless it's a Par 8 or 9 HAAA)
If I'm thinking about what gift I'vd give a friend, I would give my friends a lesson at Golf Galaxy...affordable and quality.

I WAS using a Leopold laser before I got the DLX 1K. The new laser is much faster, and stronger power. While it's true I don't need to be able to get a yardage out to 1000 yards, it does make it easier to get a reading off a flag stick at longer ranges. And it works better for getting a yardage to a bunker that may or may not be in range, so that's a plus for the new laser. Only Negative with the DLX 1K is that it's a 6X and the Leopold is an 8X. so I don't get quite as good of a look at the pin placement on the green now.

Well ... nothing but rain again here in the Carolina's....ground is saturated...supposedly clear tomorrow before yet another system comes through bringing more rain. So no golf in my future. I tried to play Wed but a lot of work around the house this hoiday season had left me with a sore back. So didn't try to play. Did try to go the range and that wasn't fun either with that little twinge in the back...

We have a little snow today with a high of 18 or so. Over night low is forecast to be around Minus 6, with a high tomorrow of 15 so NO golf in the forecast to start off the new year. Wife and I went to the last Broncos game of the year Sunday. They LOST as expected but it was nice to get out of the house for a few hours. I hate to say it, but I much Perfer to watch football games on TV rather then go ti the game in person. MUCH better view of all of the action watching at home on my 60 inch TV. And the beer does NOT cost $7.00 a pop.

I hear you Don. We do a few things during the year at the stadiums and I just have to suck up the cost of food and drink. And to me, I find sometimes we're packed in like sardines..

Aimee, I agree on the socks. I have several pair of wool socks for this time of year and I love them..weating a pair now!
Don, agree on the SC200. I wonder though what the accuracy is of the other models of monitors? I read an comparison review to the SC200 to the Trackman and those results were pretty closely matched (1-2 MPH differences) between the two.
Also, I see references of a SC300 model...but only here and there .. so there may be a new version coming out in the near future, which would mean a drop in price on the 200...

From the videos I've seen it seems that the SC200 is pretty close to what they get from the higher price units like the Trackman. One other thing I notices about the SC200 is they say the battery life is only about 20 hours. I have the SwingSpeedRadar unit and I use it EVERY time I go to the range for about 2 hours or so at a time, and the batteries last for MANY YEARS. I've had it for over 12 years now and I'm on the SECOND set of 3 and it's going fine.
