good game

good game Scott. I was actually on the bowling team in high school. Highest score was 225. I think my nerves wouldn't let me bowl 300 and agree with Don, that's a tough spare to be left with after throwing them down the middle all night!

Yeah, I practiced picking up

Yeah, I practiced picking up 10 pins in our warm up, I always try to start with a few of those so WHEN it happens - not IF - I would be ready.  but I just rushed that attempt.  The first ball wasn't that bad but i can't complain, I got breaks along the way to get through 9 clean anyway.  But I will say, I was surprised how not nervous I was.  I just went up and tried to stay relaxed and do what I had done the whole time.

But Don, your point is well taken...given I had 0 practice during the game of picking up any spares, it wasn't a surprise to see me miss it.  but it was fun while it lasted.  I actually wondered once if I would ever get the chance to throw in that situation,  i had strung together 3 or 4 or 5 stirkes before but never 9.  So that was actually fun, and satisfying seeing that I could actually get there.

Cold windy and cloudly here

No golf in my plans for the next week. Cold and hihg winds with cloudly skies is NOT my idea of ideal golf weather.

It has been unseasonably warm

It has been unseasonably warm here the past week with temperatures nudging up into the low 50's.  I even saw someone out on a local course earlier in the week.  If this keeps up, I might even try it myself this weekend.

Congrats on the fine bowling, Scott!  I'm sure there will be other opportunities in the future to bag that elusive 300 game.

DON
Snow today

We got snow over night and into today. Looks like 3 inches or so on the ground at noon. If the sun comes back out and it warms up next week, i need to get out to the range and test a Cobra hygrid that I just did a Spine and FLO alignment on the shaft. Will be interesting to see how much the alignment does for the feel and performance of the club compated to how it came from the OEM.

DON
Cold here too

I have Scott's hybrid ready to test after I did the Spine and FLO alignment on the shaft. But the weather has NOT been cooperating with me since I got the club done. If it's not too cold, it's been too cloudy to see the ball flight, so I'm still waiting on the weather. Sorry for the delay Scott, but I want to re-hit the club after the work and compare it to how it performed before. I promise to get out to the range as soon as the weather will let me so I can return your hybrid to you.

No worries Don.   It's all

No worries Don.   It's all good.  I figured it our weather was poor, your's was probably too.  We're in theory getting a break from the weather for the next week...mid 50's and sunny.  Though today there was a decent wind which lowered the warmth a bit.

We've had some very cold days

We've had some very cold days, but fortunately only one day of snow. Today it rained heavily all day but thankfully temp in the 40's so it was wet and not white. although there is a fair amt of flooding, many of the drains seem to be blocked by leaves and twigs.

Well, the call today was

Well, the call today was sunny and mid 50s...but I failed to notice it also said 10-20MPH winds..  Jeez, this seems like the windiest winter I remember.  Every time i go to play, seems like it's always windy.  So today I just played 9 holes.  I'm playing tomorrow so today was really just a chance to hit the old Wilson Ci9 irons I put back in the bag.  They are more forgiving it seems than the Cobra Amp Cell's I've been playing.  So I wanted to hit irons alot today and overall hit them well.  Trouble was hitting tee shots.  Have struggled with those the last couple rounds.

May end up taking a couple lessons from Golf Galaxy.  They have a 6 pack of video lessons for $199.  May give them a shot for the spring.   Looks like they use a lot of their tech in their lessons.

DON
SNOW here

We have snow here today. Supposed to clear up late tonight and be sunny most of the rest of the week and into the weekend. I'm hoping to get to the range on Friday to get in some practice and hit Scottls Hybrid. Mostly Sunny and mid 40's would be okay since the range is covered and has overhead heaters in the ceiling. Close the back door and crank up the heater and I'll be good.

Ground Hog's Day?

Can you believe Ground Hog's day is only a few weeks away. Can Spring and warmer weather be that far behind??? I'm really getting tired of cold and snow this year. Seems like we have at least a little snow or really cold temps just about every day during the week, which for me is the time I want to go out and either play or practice golf. The last 5 or 6 years have been like this. More cold and more snow on the ground then when I started playing golf some 14 or 15 years ago. When I first started play golf I was playing just about Year Round. I rememger play golf in December and January more often than not. All I keep hearing about is Global Warming, But all I FEEL is colder weather the last half dozen winters.

Well I am too Don, getting tired of winter cold.  We usually only have a couple snows a year so for me, if it's going to be as cold as it has been, let it snow.  So I am ready for the Spring and Summer!  bring it on

Looks like it's supposed to be in the high 50's this weekend so hoping to get out to the course.  After the cold snap we've had this week, it'll be nice to get to the range/course.

Well the snow is starting to

Well the snow is starting to melt around here and my home course driving range was closed this weekend...mostly saturated...and one of the greens I could see from the road was too.

Going to try and play Wednesday - 47 degrees and sunny - but I'm sure it'll be cart path only.  Main reason I'm trying is a) I want to get some swings in before I head to Vegas in a few weeks and 2) I have that Golfnow coupon I got when I bought those golf balls on Amazon.  Actually it covered $45 worth of Hot Deal booking costs so the entire round for 3 of us was free.  Not bad.  That was a $46 value.  Hell I only paid $38 for 2 dozen balls and the coupon...so all and all that turned out well.

Hope everyone is staying warm...Spring is coming!!!

It's hard to be enthusiastic,

It's hard to be enthusiastic, Scott.  As I look out the window, I see that the thermometer is registering 0°F!  That seems to have been the average temperature for the month.  I haven't even gone skiing it's too cold!

The long rnage forecast for this region is that below normal temperatures are supposed to continue through March.  I can attest that the few days it has made it up into the upper 20's it feels downright balmy!

The one bright spot for me this winter is that I have assembled a vintage golf set made up of clubs from the 70's to early 90's.  It has been a fun journey getting to know a bit about the sort of kit that previous generations played and doing a bit of resortation work on them.  I'm really looking forward to gaming this bag for a portion of my rounds this summer.

Cool Sco, post  a picture of them if you get a chance....

Well, weather wise we got 6 inches of snow last night.  That followed the snow/freezing rain we had Monday and Tuesday.  The ground is saturated so even the ranges were closed this week.  I'm giving up and heading to the Keys for a couple days.  Maybe once I get back there will be some sunnier, warmer temps.  Winter is not welcome around here any longer...

Well we hit a thaw recently..bouncing between the 60's this week but brought rain.  next week looks nicer.  I'm headed to Vegas for the week to celebrate my birthday...yeah!   Hoping to play golf while I'm out there.  Maybe Monday here before I go, we'll see.

Hope we are heading closer to Spring warming and thaws!

Ouch, Aimee.  It was gorgeous

Ouch, Aimee.  It was gorgeous in Vegas, 70-80 degrees.  Walking around all day in shorts and a t-shirt.  Coming home and it's not quite that this week though it was today.  but it's turning colder again though not much below 50, so that's an improvement.

but all the yards are bursting Spring..trees in bloom, birds chirping.  So it won't be long now. Golf is coming soon!

After a nice steady rain the

After a nice steady rain the other day the snow is now pretty well all gone save for a few stubborn banks at the side of the road.  We have had the most ideal spring melt I can ever recall.  There is still frost in the ground and it is below freezing again this evening as I write, but it won't be long now.  A couple of warm rains is likely all we need to get things really moving along which reminds me that it is time to get at the yard clean-up before the grass starts growing in earnest.

Open house at my club is sheduled for April 4 and there is a demo day weekend scheduled for April 10-12 at another local course so play won't be far off now.  I'm itching to have a go with the new Taylormade Aeroburner driver based on the rave reviews I seen on this club.

Finally back (thanks Scott).

Finally back (thanks Scott).  My favorite course in Hamden, Ct has closed as the management company did not renew the contract with the town.  On a better note, I am designing a new house on the water and one the clients father is superintendent at a nearby course so I probally will be playing there.  Only nine holes but very challenging.  Hello to All

I hope so, it seems there was

I hope so, it seems there was a problem with the banquet facility which is part of the clubhouse, pro shop and the club management outfit could not come to terms with the city as this is a municipal course; it actually hosts some of the pga pro qualifiying rounds.  Last year I went to another course with better practice facilities and driving range, a course that had been private club and is now public course.  I have a few reservation about playing there as  1. the course is tough  and  2. when I was 16 I worked there as a dishwasher.

first round?

Looks like first round of the season may be Easter Sunday. Nice and warm today, but very windy this afternoon and I am swamped with work so no time to even get out to the range. Gonna be rusty, might be able to go to the range on Saturday to knock some cobwebs off the clubs at least.
